1922 – 1986

LIFE AND WORK

I. LIFE - CAREER

6/23/1922: Born in Ha Noi, North of Vietnam, called Hoang Van Huong, the third child in a family of nine children;
1928 – 1933: Student at Gendreau College (later changed into Dung Lac), Ha Noi; Student of Ha Noi Puginier Friar College;
1931: was selected to join Ha Noi Church Choir;
1934 – 1941: Student at Hoang Nguyen Friar College, Ha Noi;
1942 - 1945:         Student of Ha Noi Saint Sulpice College;
Study music with catholic Priest P. Depautis and J. Bouis;
                  Conductor for Ha Noi Church Choir;
1945: Teach music at Nguyen Trai College, Ha Noi;
1948 – 1953: Teach music at Chu Van An College, Ha Noi;
1953: Join the Army. Served the psy-war college at Dept. No. 5 of Ha Noi Military 3rd Zone;
1955: servant for the Saigon Military Broadcasting;
1955: Demobilized, Manager of Diffusion Broadcasting General Group Saigon Sports and Youth Services;
1955 – 1965: Music Professor at Saigon Common Musical Ballet College; Participant of the Committee Founder & Board of Directors of Saigon National Drama and Music School; Teach Solfege from preliminary classes to professional classes;

1963: Bachelor of French Literature – Saigon University;
1964: Manager of Saigon “Broadcasting Dept. under the Saigon Ministry of Education;
1967 – 1968: attended an educational training course mainly in broadcasting & television at Syracuse University, New York – USA;
1971: received a culture educational 2nd award medal;
1971: music professor at Dalat Politic War College;
1972 – 1975: music professor at Dalat Politic Business College;

In September 1986, Hung Lan got a very bad illness due to old age and weakness. Hung Lan passed away on 09/17/1986 in memory and respect of family, relatives, friends and everybody.

II. ACHIEVEMENTS
1938: Tieng Goi Len Duong (Call in the army) - 1st composition;
1944: Viet Nam Minh Chau Troi Dong (Vietnam Brilliant Pearl of the East) & Rang Dong (Day break), got two 1st musical pieces award offered by Ha Noi Music Encouraged Association;
1945: member of “Le Bao Tinh” Musical Committee Founder & Leader until 1964; Publishing 16 Catholic notebooks titled “Cung Thanh” (over 350 songs);
1952: got 2 textbooks prizes offered by the Ministry of Education for (Am Nhac Lop De That & Am Nhac Lop De Luc textbooks); Attended the South East Asia Musical Conference organized in Manila, the Philippines;
1957 – 1970: establishment and leader of “Thien Thanh” Choir in co-operation with Saigon Diffusion Broadcasting & Military Diffusion Broadcasting;
1965 – 1967: Leader of “Singing Exercise Hour” in co-operation with Saigon Diffusion Broadcasting;
1969 – 1970: Establishment and leader of “Do Vui Nong Thon / Amusing Agricultural Quiz” in co-operation with Saigon Broadcasting House in Agricultural Fishery Development Program;
1969: from October carried out a weekly “Tim Hieu Dan Nhac Viet Nam /Comprehension of Vietnamese Traditional Music” on Tieng Noi Tu Do Broadcasting House. Up to February 1971 totally 75 programs then continued;
1970: from August carried out “Tim Hieu Dan Nhac Viet Nam /Comprehension of Vietnamese Traditional Music” on Vietnam Television Station. Up to February 1971 totally 8 programs then went on;
On August 15th, 1970 carried out the first “Lang Van” program named “Vietnam Children Music Foundation”;
1971: Co-operating with Mr. Pham Dinh Tan, a writer in “Tinh Viet Cultural” program on Vietnam Television Station;
1971: received the First Research Award offered by the President of the      Republic of Vietnam regarding the work “TIM HIEU DAN CA VIETNAM / Comprehension of Music Folklore” in the Art Literature nation wide Contest;
1973: Leader in the Sub musical committee in the College reorganized Program established by the Ministry of Education;

III . WORK:

1940: 82 catholic songs in 16 “CUNG THANH”    books;
43 pop songs as: Viet Nam Minh Chau Troi Dong / Rang Dong / Khoe Vi Nuoc / Tieng Goi Len Duong / Co Gai Viet / Mua Hop Tau / Nho Rung / Ca Xuan Hen Uoc / Xom Ngheo / Sau Lu Thu etc . . .
         Children songs: Em Yeu Ai? / Thang Ti Sun / Ong Trang Thu ect . . .;
         “Vui Ca Len” booklet;
“Dem Thanh Vo Cung” translated from “Silent Night”;
1969: 15 catholic songs influenced with traditional music air;
40 pop songs influenced with traditional music air: Duyen Tinh Mien Nam / Cai Co Lan Loi Bo Song / Kheu Ngon Den Loan / Thang Bom / Gio Thu (Tan Da's poem) / Dang Tho (Pham Dinh Tan's poem) / Ho Vong Co / La Hoi / Ho Oi Rang ect . . . (All were performed many times on Radio Broadcasting & Television Station);
“Truong Ca Tu Ngay” , Vietnamese authentic meditation about the mystery of Jesus Christ Incarnation (December 1970);
